Center Drive School
About
Throughout the school year, students will be exploring a variety of media in the art room along with artistic and personal expression. Students will be learning how to make connections regarding their artwork and life outside of the art room. It is important for us to realize that art is a combination of experiences as well as an exploration of materials. Hopefully students will enjoy exploring these concepts in addition to learning about the creation of art.
Maine Learning Results and Common Core Standards
Lessons taught in the art room are based on the State of Maine Common Core Standards and the Maine Learning Results. Links are provided below with detailed information regarding both systems.
"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls."
Common Core Standards
When the image is clicked, a PDF will be visible of the Common Core State Standards and how these standards are starting to impact the art classrooms at Center Drive School. Specific lessons are listed as well as common vocabulary that students will be learning. However, lessons vary year to year and although the same standards are taught they may be used in alternate lessons.

Maine Learning Results - Visual Arts
The link to the right will provide a PDF of the Maine Learning Results for the Visual Arts. Maine is currently working on a new set of state standards, Common Core, but until the drafts have been finalized, all art teachers are expected to continue teaching based on the MLR.
