Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful break with lots of relaxing outside with the amazing weather we had. But now that it's gross and raining, let's get back to arting!
This week, we are going to use found objects to create a cardboard animal. This lesson can be as complicated or as simple as you feel comfortable - Please remember though, if you decide to make a more complicated animal and it takes you longer than 45-55 minutes to complete then you can work on it next week and skip that weeks assignment (just send me an email to let me know what you're up to).
Materials:
- Cardboard (shipping boxes, cereal boxes, toilet paper tubes, etc)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Bottle Glue or Glue Stick or Masking Tape
Optional:
- Oil Pastels
- Sticks
- Paint
- Other found Objects
- Hot Glue Gun (with adult supervision)
1. I would highly recommend drawing a sketch of your animal first. This should be a rough sketch so you know what you are building before you start cutting your cardboard. Also, decide if you want your animal to be 2D or 3D - 2D will be much easier to design and glue together but is more limiting with your design choices.
2. Start cutting out various pieces of cardboard to build your animal.
3. Depending on what you are using for materials and your design, it may be easier to add paint/oil pastels/color now or after your sculpture is assembled.
3. Glue or tape your pieces together. If you have access to a hot glue gun and adult supervision it will make things go a lot easier. However, regular school glue will also work - just be sure not to add too much (the pieces slide all over the place and not stick) and hold the pieces together for a few minutes.
4. Send me a picture of your crazy creature and I hope you had fun!
